The San Juan Islands are protected inshore islands, situated between Washington and Canada, just ninety miles north of Seattle. Accessible by personal watercraft, ferry or aircraft, these beautiful, pristine islands consist mainly of coniferous forests, grassy hillsides, rocky shores and pebble beaches.
The San Juans see the sun an average of 247 days per year. Ocean temperatures range from 45 to 52 degrees depending on the season. Rainfall averages 29 inches/year and the weather is externally moderate with air temperatures rarely exceeding 80 degrees in the summer and rarely falling below 30 in the winter. During the high season, June thru October, the islands can do weeks without a cloud in the sky. The lower average rainfall is due to the fact that the islands lie in the rain shadow of the Olympic and Cascade Mountains.
